That Adopted Girl Supports Adoption Exchange Striving To Find Homes For Children in Foster Care

Right now in Clark County 120 foster children are ready and waiting for adoption.

If they don’t find a permanent home, studies show these children will become adults who are more likely to be homeless, impoverished and incarcerated.

More than 60 people hoping to prevent that at the Dr. Beth Howe Center in Las Vegas on Friday morning. For more than two hours the group of elected officials, social workers and business leaders discussed how to close the adoption gap.

“I guarantee you there’s 120 families out there that are looking for purpose and meaning in their lives,” said Brian Knudsen, chairman of the Las Vegas advisory board for Adoption Exchange, a Denver-based nonprofit. “There is opportunity there.”

Clothes and Necessities Donated for Kids in Foster Care [March 2018]

Part I – The Fundraiser

There are a lot of kids who are taken to Child Haven with none of their belongings. They have to leave everything behind at the unfit homes they are removed from. It’s up to Child Haven to give these kids some necessities to take with them as they enter the foster care system. Child Haven does not receive any state funding to provide these kids with these items. We found the wishlist and would love you to join us in fulfilling some wishlist items by making a donation! Together, let’s make sure that kids leaving Child Haven have some things to take with them on their journey ahead. 💕

Let’s start the new year off right.
It’s important to give for those who don’t have.

We are starting off with a fundraiser for the NV Child Haven wishlist, and if all goes well will do the same for surrounding states and their wish lists. Please contact us if you would like to assist in implementing a give in your state.

When children are removed from their homes and placed into protective custody, they have few, if any, of their personal belongings. The Department of Family Services provides a duffel bag filled with new clothing, toys and other essential items to children when they depart the Child Haven campus to live with relatives or in a foster home.

The Department DOES NOT receive funding to purchase the duffel bags and their contents, or the other items provided to families. They rely on the generosity of community partners and general public to help supply these basic necessities.

100% of funds raised will go towards purchasing new items from the Child Haven wishlist to provide children in foster care with some items of their very own.

Your donations and contributions are loved and appreciated. ❤️

PART II – The Donation

We spoke with Child Haven about their specific item needs (as to avoid buying things from the wishlist which they have all stocked up, and to make sure to provide the items from the list they can most use right now). With their insight into specific need and the help of your awesome donations we officially have ordered. SO excited for it all to arrive and get to the kiddos. Will keep you all updated when it’s delivered! 💕

Women Grow Toy Drive for Kids in Foster Care 2017

PART I – The Toy Drive

Grateful to have Las Vegas Women Grow including a toy drive for That Adopted Girl! Here’s why…

The toys donated will be going to children at Child Haven (where children are taken immediately after being removed from their homes, and where they wait until being placed with kin or foster parents). It can be a scary and confusing time for children. They can be in there waiting in limbo for a matter of hours, or for many weeks.

These toy donations are SO much more than play things. Each toy has the power to bring at least a little bit of light and comfort to a child in waiting. That’s important, meaningful, and so much more than just a toy. Thank you all SO MUCH and we look forward to seeing you tonight

PART II – The Toy Donation to Child Haven!

Today I played holiday fairy for That Adopted Girl and my heart danced with joy.

My business partner, my Cindy Lou Who hairdo, and I delivered a whole bunch (about 70!) of awesome toys to Child Haven. These were brand new toys donated by cannabis industry professionals at the Women Grow event last week. What a privilege it is to be able to give!

The receiving agent’s eyes grew larger with each new batch of toys we brought in from the car. Often Child Haven gets used items donated, so they were surprised by the donation of new items, and were excited to have quality, brand new toys for the kids that will be spending the holidays at Child Haven! Thank you to everyone who played a part in this year’s donation to Child Haven. You’ve done a great thing. 💕

That Adopted Girl Events Update 2016

Self-Worth Encourage Empower Thrive

20 girls

Started the morning with a self worth exercise (“shadow box”) where the girls made a collage of everything the show to the world on the outside of the box and everything they hide from the world on the inside of the box and we talked about why they hide what they hide, and what they could potentially gain and give by sharing their truth.

Next had mac make-up artists lead a tutorial and he gave amazing mac makeup gift bags.

We then had lunch catered by a local sandwich shop and headed to JM Hair Galleries for hair styling and positive life advice.

After the salon the girls headed to the Jeff Civillico family friendly show at the Flamingo on the Las Vegas Strip.  It was a blast!

Finished the night off with family style dinner at Lindo Michoachan.

25 girls

Italian family style dinner, dancing, roses, boxed chocolates, cupcakes and a presentation and conversation surrounding the importance of loving one self and knowing one’s worth.

Hand crafted 26 Easter baskets for girls in the foster care system!

Being an adopted kid, Founder Juliana Whitney can get bit emotional on her birthday.  Instead of focusing too much on herself she wanted to use her day of adoption to help kids in the foster care system by turning her birthday celebration into a fundraiser.  Wine tasting fundraiser at Khoury’s Fine Wine and Spirits.

30 gift bags

Youth helping youth.  Gathered 30 high school students to build 30 holiday gift bags filled with candy, fuzzy socks, face masks, manicure kits, hair ties, and more.
